Modern Transport Trailers Ltd was formed as company in March 2005 by owner Lindsay Coutts. Based in Invercargill, the company has built a strong client base in Southland and throughout the South Island.
Our reputation for quality workmanship using the latest materials and technology available means we can deliver strong, durable lightweight trailers and heavy transport equipment to suit any application.

Beginnings in Heavy Transport Engineering

Lindsay started his working career as a apprentice coach builder in 1981. After completing his apprenticeship Lindsay headed off overseas in 1988 for the big OE. He lived in Perth in Western Australia where Lindsay worked for a transport engineering company, before returning to New Zealand in 1992.
Lindsay learnt a lot about heavy transport engineering using high tensile steels and was looking forward to using that knowledge in NZ. He started working for Commercial Vehicle Centre Ltd in Invercargill as a transport engineer, and soon become the workshop foreman. In the year of 2000 he was promoted to workshop manager.

Lightweight trailers: a business opportunity

CVC was known for their light weight trailers and had proven their reliability over the years. Lindsay could see that some design improvements could reduce the trailer tare weights even further without compromising the strength or reliability of the trailers. In 2005 Lindsay bought the engineering division in Invercargill off Commercial Vehicle Centre Ltd. MTT continued to operate from the same site as CVC in Invercargill up until 2014.
In 2014 Modern Transport Trailers moved into a larger 1000 square metre building situated at 48 Basstian St in Waikiwi Invercargill. In 2016 MTT also started operating from 47 Basstian St as more room was required. Its now been 12 years since MTT started its operations and continues to have the on going support from its original clients and continues to increase its client base.
The mission statement of Modern Transport Trailers according to general manager Lindsay Coutts is to not get to big to care and to treat all clients no matter how big equally. To continue to produce quality product built to exactly what the client wants.

Meeting the demand for lightweight transport solutions

Since 2005 we have manufactured a large number of truck decks and trailers. This growth has come though good products and even better back up in after sales, there is nothing better that a repeat customer Lindsay says.
MTT has number of different products some of which include tipping trailers, stock trailers, log trailers, skeletal trailers, curtinsider trailers too name a few. MTT will design and manufacture to the customs specifications and pride themselves in delivering exactly what the customer wants and not something mass produced.
